SAP Shows Us How to Go Green with Workforce Management
During the German portion of their SAPPHIRE conference, SAP has been doling out service awards. One of the software companies happy to make the cut is ClickSoftware Technologies, a workforce management and service optimization solutions provider that was given an ERP Executive Best of SAPPHIRE NOW Award.
Specifically, ClickSoftware was recognized in the Best Green Initiatives category. The company’s automated workforce management and optimization solutions are resold by SAP as SAP Workforce Scheduling & Optimization, and can help organizations reduce their carbon footprint by optimizing field technicians’ routes to maximize carbon efficiency. To a greater extent, overall fuel efficiency stems from transforming fuel cost management into overall travel management, and making sure that people with the right skills are performing the right tasks at the right time.
According to ClickSoftware, efficient task assignment can reduce travel by 20%, and that means decreasing carbon emissions by many thousands per year, which is impressive. Many software pundits have posited that sustainability issues will soon be shaping ERP platforms and how people choose them, so it’s a smart move on SAP’s part to go green. Also, it’s exciting to see exactly which platforms can help companies further their green initiatives—few would suspect that workforce management can significantly reduce carbon emissions, and SAP shows us that it can be a valuable tool to that end.
