World Golf Village Web Site Sports New Interactive and Multimedia Features

St (November 11, 1998) – World Golf Village and its official information technology partner, IBM, today unveiled the revamped www.wgv.com, the official Web site for World Golf Village, home of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Originally launched in December 1997, the site now boasts a new design, interactive content and multimedia features.
“The revamped Web site tackles the complex challenge of representing the many different aspects of World Golf Village in an environment that is entertaining as well as functional,” said Ruffin Beckwith, Executive Director of World Golf Village. “IBM lends an unsurpassed technology expertise to the new site as it does throughout many areas within World Golf Village. We’re excited that our Web site is now as up-to-date and interactive as the rest of the project.”
Golf fans from around the world can now enjoy up-to-date sights, sounds and on-line news features including:
News Section – Top stories of the day, a special events calendar, press releases and a Java headline ticker present news updates and features.
Daily “Quote of the Day” and “Hall of Fame Facts”- Quotes from famous golfers and facts about the game refresh with every new page. Technology quotes and facts are randomly selected and dynamically generated from a database.
“For More Information”- Fans wanting more information on a specific topic or World Golf Village facility can submit an on-line form in the “For More Information” section and have their request for information fulfilled automatically by an information database designed specifically for the World Golf Village.
Multimedia Gallery – Experience the sights and sounds of the World Golf Village via the multimedia gallery with photos, streaming video and audio clips.
Fan Poll and Contest Registration – Fans can cast their votes in polls about the game and its players and soon register on-line for sweepstakes.
World Golf Village Vacation Packages – Link to on-line reservations for accommodation or vacation packages to the World Golf Village.
World Golf Hall of Fame ticket pricing and special event planning – For those wanting to plan an event, holiday or a visit to the World Golf Hall of Fame, this section gives information about ticket pricing and packages.
The World Golf Village site was designed and developed by IBM interactive media consultants who concentrated on making the site easy for users to find information and navigate as well as easy for World Golf Village staff to manage and post content on a day-to-day basis.
To streamline www.wgv.com content management, the IBM team designed a custom-built software application based on Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino software. World Golf Village staff collect, manage and post textual, photographic, audio or video content to the Web site with a user-friendly interface, eliminating the need for staff to have HTML programming experience.

World Golf Village is the centerpiece of the 6,300-acre, mixed-use Saint Johns Development that currently includes the World Golf Hall of Fame; the World Golf Village IMAX® Theater; headquarters for PGA TOUR Productions; the 300-room World Golf Village Resort Hotel and St. Johns County Convention Center; the Vistana Resort at World Golf Village, rental and vacation ownership villas; The Residences, a 31-acre development of luxury condominium homes; and The Slammer and The Squire golf course, home of the SENIOR PGA TOUR’s 1999 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf tournament.
