Ulbrich Stainless Steels and Special Metals Implements AXIS ERP Solution
Major Metals Processor and Distributor’s Shaped Wire Facility Standardizes on AXIOM to Automate, Optimize and Improve Business Processes
Indianapolis, IN (October 21, 2009) –
Consona Corporation (Consona), a worldwide leader in providing customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and services for companies of all sizes, today announced that Ulbrich Stainless Steels and Metals, Inc., an international supplier of custom rolled strip, foil, flat and shaped wire products, has concluded the second major implementation of the AXIS ERP solution at its shaped wire facility. The new implementation will streamline Ulbrich’s ERP business processes, providing cost savings across its sales, manufacturing and costing functions.
Ulbrich, a major processor and distributor of stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium and other special metals, was founded by Fred Ulbrich, Sr. in 1924 as a scrap metal reselling business. Over the years, the business has evolved, and now employs almost 700 people in six countries around the world. Ulbrich’s growth and geographic diversity soon revealed inefficiencies in its two legacy information systems, so the company decided to standardize on a single ERP system across all business units, hoping to streamline its business processes. “With 15 different companies around the world, it was critical that we have a standard ERP system in place that could also offer some customizations for our unique business needs,” said Vic D’Amato, corporate controller, Ulbrich.
Ulbrich has successfully implemented the AXIS solution at their Shaped Wire production facility in North Haven, Conn, as well as in their corporate finance department. The scope of this implementation includes sales, manufacturing on three shifts, and costing functions. More than 40 custom capabilities were created in the core AXIS software application for Ulbrich.
“AXIS is one of the few ERP solutions that enable us to customize the system to meet our customers’ unique metals industry requirements and needs,” said D’Amato. “It also provides many opportunities for expanded usage, including improved accuracy and completeness of data during order entry, optimized selection of inventory for producing customer orders, and automated creation of shop order process routings.”
The next implementation will be Ulbrich’s strip mill and service center in Wallingford, Conn. on April 1, 2010. The remaining locations – including the precision flat wire mill in Westminster, S.C. (Ulbrich Precision Flat Wire), and the service centers in Alsip, Ill., Fresno, Calif., and Mexico — are scheduled to go live with AXIS in 2010.
“By standardizing on the AXIS ERP solution across its business units, Ulbrich is clearly committed to ensuring the company’s business processes run smoothly, which also translates to efficient customer interaction,” said Frank O’Nell, vice president of product management for Consona’s ERP solutions. “As the company grows, AXIS will scale to its needs and continue to control and optimize its business processes in the coming years.”
