SC Johnson Wax Selects IBM For Global Information Technology Alliance
Somers, N.Y (January 13, 1998) – Building on IBM’s extensive solutions portfolio in the manufacturing industry, IBM Global Services and SC Johnson Wax announced today that they have established a comprehensive global information technology (IT) alliance.
The global agreement will be implemented through regional IT services contracts, the first of which is a 10-year, multi-million dollar outsourcing contract for IBM Global Services to manage SC Johnson Wax’s data center operations across Europe and to support manufacturing sites in the UK and Holland. The scope of the European contract covers application development and maintenance, as well as management of enterprise servers, network services, desktop systems, and a multi-lingual help desk based in Manchester to support users across Europe. Further analysis is underway to determine if SC Johnson Wax might leverage IBM’s extensive solutions portfolios in other regions such as Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and North America.
“Our global alliance with IBM will enable SC Johnson Wax to focus on strategic business directions and support our position as an industry leader into the next millennium,” said Francis Foin, director of finance-Europe. “Additionally, teaming with IBM will provide us with innovative technology that will help make SC Johnson Wax more responsive to its customers’ changing needs.”
“IBM’s agreement with SC Johnson Wax leverages our global leadership in IT services in a way that will establish Johnson Wax as a technology and a business leader within its industry,” said Phil Thompson, vice president, manufacturing industry, IBM Global Services. “It also demonstrates IBM’s commitment to help our customers in the manufacturing industry to lead in their marketplace and deploy technology for leading-edge business solutions.”
