Openbravo strengthens product and community with launch of Openbravo ERP 2.50
– Openbravo ERP 2.50’s modular architecture empowers the worldwide open source community to develop and market additional modules around its core application –
Barcelona, Spain and Cambridge, Massachusetts (March 23, 2009) – Openbravo, the leading developer of web-based open source Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Point of Sale (POS) solutions for businesses, has released the beta version of Openbravo 2.50, the latest iteration of its award-winning ERP software.
Version 2.50 has an innovative modular architecture that allows Openbravo’s global community to easily develop new features and functions to complement the core ERP application. Users can deploy their own third-party modules, or browse and use shared functionality created by other users from a central repository. Shared third-party modules currently available include additional reports, connectors, and content packs such as tax codes and product specifications.
Openbravo ERP 2.50 also includes a range of technical enhancements and usability improvements. New user-facing features include support for right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Chinese; added smart-build processes; autosave features; additional user alerts; enhanced support for multiple business units and complex organizations; improved document printing and emailing; and production accounting enhancements.
Technical enhancements include a new Java data access layer (DAL) on top of the relational data model. This allows developers to write Java-based business logic and extensions, manipulate ERP-related transactions through web services, and develop custom user interfaces through Java or any SOA-enabled technology.
Openbravo is dedicated to its community-driven business model. Manel Sarasa, CEO of Openbravo, said: “Openbravo ERP 2.50 is a critical release for us. Its modular architecture gives our community unparalleled power to add new features and to complement the capabilities inherent in Openbravo’s core ERP application. This is a turning point for us and an incredibly positive change for the entire global Openbravo community. This new empowered ecosystem also widens the gap between us and traditional proprietary ERP players: while they are busy closing off access to their software, we are opening ours even more.”
He concluded: “At Openbravo we strive to deliver market-leading open source solutions to a market-leading community. Openbravo ERP 2.50 meets both these objectives hands down.”
