New IBM Monitors Offer Advanced Technology at Affordable Prices

New Audio Speaker and USB Hub Capabilities among Enhanced Optional Features

NEW YORK, N.Y (April 15, 1998) – IBM today announced four new monitors with advanced ease-of-use features and improved performance to support e-business. This next generation of full-featured monitors from IBM’s Professional Series and General Business Series offers customers new optional audio speaker capabilities, plus Universal Serial Bus (USB) to meet their personal and professional needs.
The new Professional Series monitors, which replace the existing models, are now available in 17″, 19″ and 21″ models (with viewable image sizes of 16″, 17.9″ and 19.8″ respectively). Capable of handling challenging desktop publishing and digital imaging applications, the new Professional Series monitors feature Sony Trinitron CRT’s providing customers with an even flatter screen surface, and clear, bright, high-contrast images. The P72 monitor incorporates a new video enhancement feature that allows users to select from three different optimized screen settings to enhance text, graphics or bitmap images, as well as photography. Brightness, contrast and other parameters automatically adjust to enhance the image by simply selecting a setting. Additionally, the P92 and P202 monitors offer dual video inputs to provide simultaneous connection of two systems to a single monitor for multiple application use.
The new 19″ General Business Series monitor features easy installation with plug and play Direct Display Communications (DDC) capabilities for automatic configuration and preset modes for ease-of-use and optimum performance. The General Business Series Monitors, are an ideal choice for mainstream business usage and consumer applications including word processing, electronic mail, data entry and business graphics. The new G94 compliments the General Business Series and is the first IBM CRT monitor to accommodate a pluggable USB Hub option that allows up four USB devices to plug into the monitor’s USB port. Additionally, the G94 will be offered as a touch screen monitor through MicroTouch Systems’ distribution agreement with IBM.
These new Professional and General Business Series monitors deliver uncompromised image clarity. Additional features include:

A choice of five different languages in which to view user control selections;
Enhanced multi-layer quarter-wave premium screen treatment that reduces glare;

The IBM monitors announced today are compliant with Energy Star and NUTEK for worldclass power savings, MPR-II and TCO95 for lowest emissions and ISO 9241 parts 3 and 8 for best screen performance and ergonomics. Available colors include pearl white and gray to complement the look of IBM PCs and IntelliStation Windows NT workstations.
Business Audio Speaker Option
Also announced today, the new Business Audio Speaker option is a monaural speaker that provides customers with a low cost audio solution where training and education are required at the employee’s workstation. It can be easily snapped on to any IBM General Business Series or Professional Series monitor with an accessory rail provided with the speaker or can operate as a stand alone speaker with most IBM or non-IBM systems where a sound card is used.
The user can easily install the Business Audio Speaker by simply plugging it into the appropriate system connectors. Two headphone outputs and a microphone input allow users to further regulate and control their listening environment.
