New Century Energies Signs $600 Million Services Agreement with IBM for End-to-End Information Technology Support
IBM to Support New Century Energies’ Business Transformation
SOMERS, NY (December 22, 1999) – To better meet the challenges of the evolving utility marketplace, New Century Energies (NCE), a Denver, CO based utilities company, and IBM recently signed a new 10 year agreement designed to transition the relationship from an IT productivity outsourcing contract to a business transformation relationship focused on NCE’s revised organizational and market needs.
One of the first major utility companies to take advantage of IT outsourcing, NCE selected IBM Global Services in 1995 to support its complete IT infrastructure, including application development and maintenance, data center, network and desktop services.
To support NCE’s newly expanded organization and IT infrastructure, IBM will now provide services that offer the company enhanced flexibility and support its transformation, including business transformation consulting, and customized and scaleable solutions for each of the company’s business units – delivery services, retail, energy supply and shared services.
“The sweeping changes in the energy marketplace, driven by global deregulation, have posed new challenges to utility companies,” said Wayne Brunetti, Vice Chairman, President, and Chief Operating Officer, NCE. “IBM has successfully supported out IT infrastructure for the last five years and will play a key role in helping us to become a leading ‘next generation’ utility company.”
“NCE brought IBM into its strategic circle and said ‘Here’s where we are going, how can you help us’. The agreement we crafted together answers the call,” said Tom Cotney, IBM Global Services Vice President for the Utility and Energy Services Industry. “NCE is committed to become a major player in a market which is quickly consolidating.”
