IDC: IBM Reclaims Server Revenue Leadership in 4Q 2010

ARMONK, N.Y., Feb. 28, 2011 — IDC today announced that IBM (NYSE: IBM) was the top server vendor, by revenue in the fourth quarter of 2010 with 37.4 percent market share, reclaiming the number one position.  IBM grew server revenue by 21.9 percent and gained 2 points of market share in the fourth quarter, according to IDC.

In addition to capturing the number one position in the overall server market, IBM was also number one in UNIX, growing revenue by 12 percent resulting in IBM holding 53.9 percent market share, according to IDC.

IBM continued to lead the market for servers costing more than $250,000, attaining 69.1 percent factory revenue share in the quarter, led by its System z mainframe.  According to IDC this is the fastest quarterly revenue growth IDC has ever reported for IBM mainframes, as systems running the z/OS operating platform accounted for 11.3% of all server revenue in 4Q10.
