IBM Showcases Manageability and e-business Tools At PC Expo
N/A
NEW YORK (June 15, 1998) – This week IBM will showcase new technologies and systems management tools that help businesses build and deploy Internet e-commerce solutions to gain a competitive advantage.
IBM will demonstrate Universal Management and the Universal Management Agent (UMA), which combines IBM’s award-winning Netfinity Manager with Intel’s LANDesk Client Manager technology to deliver extensive client information to enterprise and workgroup-level management products for notification, analysis and, if necessary, repair.
The demonstration will show how UMA can enhance the manageability of a range of IBM PC-based products using Tivoli’s Netview, IBM’s Netfinity Manager, and Microsoft’s Systems Management Server running on IBM Netfinity 3500 servers. Highlights include: powering up a machine using Wake on LAN, resolving a simulated problem on a desktop unit, using Web-based technologies to collect and query specific machine information, and more, both locally and remotely.
Additionally, IBM will demonstrate a new technology using the IBM WorkPad PC Companion and Netfinity servers. Employing the remote manageability features of Netfinity Manager Software and an Internet connection, users can remotely manage servers (e.g., powering up and shutting down a machine, checking status or error logs, flashing BIOS) with a WorkPad.
Additional exhibit highlights include:
Knowledge Base, a new Web-based tool, helps customers diagnose and repair technical problems quickly and easily via the Internet. With Knowledge Base, customers can benefit from an information source used by IBM PC HelpCenter specialists, obtaining rapid and precise resolution to a wide variety of problems.
