IBM Serves Web Solutions for the 1998 French Open

WHITE PLAINS, NY (May 20, 1998) – Whether they’re seeking the latest scores from the legendary clay courts of Roland Garros or searching for a souvenir from the tournament, tennis fans around the world can hit the ‘Net at http://www.frenchopen.org for the most comprehensive information on the Web about the 1998 French Open.
The official Web site of the 1998 French Open, live since early May, was created, designed and is powered by IBM for the Federation Francaise de Tennis. Features include historical tournament information, current news, draws, player biographies and statistics. When the tournament begins on May 25, real-time results and match summaries will be available on the official Web site.
Other highlights of the site, presented in English and French, will include:
Real-time updates from matches in progress, point-by-point;
Java Scoreboard, which will be updated court-by-court and can be downloaded as a desktop console;
Player home pages that the athletes will be able to create in the Roland Garros players lounge;
Merchandise with the exclusive Roland Garros label in the site’s “Shop” section;
Net Cam, which features periodic images of play on Centre Court and Court Suzanne Lenglen; and
Good luck messages, graphic postcards which fans can personalize and send to their favorite athletes at the tournament.
Lotus Domino Go and Lotus Domino 4.6.1 servers form the backbone of the official French Open Web site. An innovative Lotus Notes Client application functions as an end-to-end content publishing system, allowing content authors to create text in Lotus Notes and publish it directly to the Web site. IBM’s Net.Commerce software, one of the company’s key e-commerce applications, lets fans make secure credit card purchases online from anywhere in the world.
