IBM Offers Free Software and Support For 50 Companies to Join NY Software Industry Assn.

Annual Membership Drive Begins June 25 at Kick-Off Social

New York, NY (June 25, 1998) – The IBM Solution Developer Program will give free software, tools and technical support to 50 companies who join the New York Software Industry Association during its membership drive which begins tonight.
The IBM worldwide program was designed to support software developers and encourage the use of IBM hardware and software platforms. The New York Software Industry Association, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1992 to build the software development industry in the downstate New York area, create a sense of community within the industry, and to assist companies and individuals within the “software community”.
The first 30 — and 20 additional new members — to join NYSIA during the drive will receive a free copy of the IBM Enterprise Suite for Windows NT, which includes the Lotus Domino messaging server, the IBM DB2 Universal Database, ADSM distributed storage manager, COM Server communications software, TX Series transaction management software and MQ Series message queuing software in one quick-install CD-ROM, in addition to a free copy of IBM’s VisualAge for Java application development tools and one year of free Solution Developer Program technical support.
“IBM recognizes the key role that solution developers play in the information technology industry,” said Jeff W. Mason, general manager of Solution Developer Marketing, IBM. “We look to partner with organizations like NYSIA to encourage developers to use the latest software development tools and to develop solutions on IBM hardware and software technologies.”
“IBM’s historical presence in this area fostered the evolution of the region’s software industry,” said Bruce E. Bernstein, President, NYSIA. “Today IBM continues to play a leading role in the growth of our industry. IBM’s donation of these cutting edge development tools, especially useful for software developers in the burgeoning e-business market, is a great example of synergies between large companies and smaller ones. IBM is proving it is a ‘model citizen’ in the New York software community.”
