RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (June 16, 1998) – IBM today announced that it is the leader in the flat panel monitor marketplace according to the results of a research report recently issued by Stanford Resources. Stanford Resources placed IBM as the ”market leader” in the flat panel marketplace for the first quarter of 1998 with a 22.2% share of U.S. shipments.
In its quarterly report, Flat Panel Monitrak, Stanford Resources, Inc., evaluated IBM’s Flat Panel Monitor distribution against comparable liquid crystal display (LCD) products from over 15 companies such as Viewsonic, NEC, and PixelVision.
Stanford Resources’ Senior Market Analyst, Rhoda Alexander says, ”IBM is the early U.S. LCD monitor market leader, with first quarter shipment of over 4,800 units. As one of the first vendors to commit to the flat panel monitor market, IBM has made substantial investments in the technology, establishing its own flat panel manufacturing facility.
