IBM Helps Baan Customers Become e-businesses

IBM Software Selected For New Baan Integration Solution

Somers, NY (November 11, 1999) – IBM today announced it will enable Baan customers to become e-businessesfaster by using off-the-shelf software to build integrated computing environments. This is the latest move by the world’s leading integration company to capitalize on the integration software market, which is predicted to be worth more than $1 billion by 2001, according to Dataquest.
IBM’s MQSeries* message-queuing software will make it possible for a new Baan integration package to connect with any third-party or custom-built applications in heterogeneous computing environments. The vast majority of large companies have three or more operating platforms. Baan enterprise solutions are installed in more than 13,000 customer sites around the world.
The new software helps companies address the integration challenges associated with deploying Baan enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain management and front-office applications. Customers are integrating Baan applications with new Web-based applications — as well as applications they’ve used for years — so they can become e-businesses, giving them a competitive advantage by automating business processes.
ERP integration is one of several types of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) challenges companies are facing. EAI, also known as business integration, has become one of the fastest-growing IT segments due to factors such as the rise of e-business, increased numbers of corporate mergers and acquisitions, and the growth of electronic commerce.
“This shows how amazing the results can be when two software companies combine resources to solve the real-world problems of their customers,” said Bill Reedy, vice president of business integration, IBM Software. “IBM is the clear leader in business integration, and this is just one more proof point.”
