IBM Expands Online Support Programs for VisualAge Java Developers
New VisualAge Developer Domain Subscription Service Offers Tools, JavaBeans, Code and More
ORLANDO (May 06, 1998) – IBM today launched VisualAge* Developer Domain, a Web site and subscription service that provides Java*** developers with the resources they need to build business-critical Web applications. The subscription service helps developers stay current by combining the latest in new tools and technology, access to the Java development community and a wealth of information and education.
The service gives developers early access to the latest IBM and VisualAge technology, some of which is only available through VisualAge Developer Domain. It includes IBM’s VisualAge for Java Professional Edition, JavaBeans***, wizards, utilities and a sample code library, in addition to educational materials and information. Subscribers also receive automatic product upgrades and enhancements. VisualAge Developer Domain is found at http://www.software.ibm.com/vadd.

What VisualAge Developer Domain Provides
VisualAge Developer Domain offers unprecedented service on the Web through the combination of being able to download the VisualAge for Java Professional Edition tool directly from the site, early access to new Java code, ability to commune with other Java developers and access to Java information. VisualAge Developer Domain contains the following:
Tools and Technologies — * VisualAge for Java Professional Edition — IBM’s award-winning Java development tool for rapidly building Java applications, applets and JavaBeans. Subscribers can download the tool directly from the Web site, a feature not available on other developer sites.
* JavaBean components — More than 300 JavaBeans will be available to developers on the site. Additional JavaBeans will become available through the subscription service.
* Subscription for Java toolkit — A frequently updated set of productivity tools for VisualAge for Java, including a rich set of JavaBeans, plus wizards and assistants, such as the JavaBeans Migration Assistant for ActiveX.
* Latest technology promotions — Subscribers get access to new Java technology from IBM, such as the Access Builder for SAP R/3** toolkit, which will subsequently be incorporated into a future version of VisualAge for Java Enterprise Edition development environment.
Information and Education — * All the information required by a VisualAge Java developer — The Web site provides access to information such as hints, tips, code samples, “how-to” and technical articles.
* Links to other IBM and non-IBM resources — Provide developers with additional wealth of information, including IBM technology development news, trade press articles, conferences and trade shows, customer case studies and related sites.
* Bi-monthly technical newsletter — Available via the Web or e-mail, the newsletter delivers practical hands-on information about IBM products for Java.
* Bi-weekly news flash — The current “IBM Developer’s Domain” program and news flash will be merged with the new subscription service. As a result, developers can continue to stay abreast of the latest application development news.
Forums and Discussion Groups –* Developers will be able to network and share code with a worldwide Java development community, including IBM developers working with Java.
