“We have had a tremendous response to our flat panels from our customers, and with these price reductions, it brings this technology closer to a broader market acceptance,” said Alan Petersburg, worldwide visuals brand manager, IBM Personal Systems Group. IBM flat panel screens have large viewing areas and high resolution displays of up to 1280 x 1024 with up to 16.7 million colors to deliver large, crisp images. The multimode monitors automatically synch to a wide range of industry standard modes (within the addressability bandwidth of the monitor) and provide users with a wide range of settings they can adjust for personal preference and performance.
These new monitors provide high quality graphic images required for demanding business applications. Due to their space-saving, low-heat and low-emissions features, IBM’s TFT monitors have a broad range of applications in the financial/banking, health care, call center, and the in-home markets(5). They meet major worldwide regulatory agency approvals for health, safety and ergonomics, which is especially beneficial in the healthcare industry and other environmentally sensitive areas.
Compared to Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs), IBM flat panel monitors consume about one third of the power, generate very little heat, are smaller and weigh less. The 16″ monitors sleek measurements (5) are 17.0″ x 16.1″ x 9.8″ (with stand) and weigh 21.8 lbs. The 14″ models measure 13.8″ x 15″ x 7″ (with stand) and weighs 10.4 lbs. Flat panels occupy about one sixth the depth, 85% of the width and height compared to conventional CRTs, and provide a flicker-free screen due to the advanced TFT array technology. And, with their perfectly flat viewing surface, glare and reflection is virtually eliminated.
