RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC (July 28, 1998) – IBM today announced two new General Business Series monitors and a 4-Device Port Universal Serial Bus (USB) hub option providing users increased manageability on their desktop. Continuing its leadership position in visual products, IBM also reduced pricing across it entire General Business Series line today, with reductions ranging up to 9%.
“These new monitors and the USB hub option provide users with increased performance, flexibility, and manageability to maximize their e-business capabilities,” said Alan Petersburg, manager, IBM Worldwide Visual Products. “Additionally, these products provide users a choice of enhanced features to further increase ease-of-use and end-user comfort at an affordable price.”
Enhanced General Business Monitors
Ideal for mainstream business applications, the new G54 and G74 models, which replace the existing G52 and G72, feature improved contrast for sharper, brighter images with less glare and reflections through premium screen treatments and an enhanced, brighter tube.
The G54 monitor, a 15-inch CRT with a 13.7-inch viewable image size, and the G74 monitor, a 17-inch CRT with a 15.9-inch viewable image size, offer flicker free operation at optimum modes. Both monitors are equipped with a maximum horizontal frequency of 69KHz, offering 1024 x 768 addressability at an 85 Hz non-interlaced refresh rate. Additional enhancements include on-screen displays, providing users with improved usability in five language settings. The controls also offer a locking feature to prevent tampering, and Plug and Play Direct Display Communications (DDC) capabilities for automatic configuration and asset tracking which increases ease of use and manageability. As with all IBM monitors, the G54 and G74 meet or exceed current industry standards for energy efficiency and emission standards(1). Additionally, the G54 and G74 will be offered as touchscreen monitors by MicroTouch Systems, an IBM Business Partner.
4-Device Port Universal Serial Bus Hub
Also announced today, a new 4-Device Port USB Hub option, provides users with an enhanced manageability feature that allows customers to attach up to four USB-enabled devices such as keyboards, mice, joysticks, scanners, cameras, and audio equipment to their PC system simultaneously.
