IBM and Baan Announce Plans for Availability of BaanERP on OS/390

BaanERP Application Ported to Powerful S/390 Servers in Use at The Aerostructures Corporation

Putten, The Netherl & s & Reston, VA (May 11, 1998) – IBM and The Baan Company (Nasdaq: BAANF; ASE: BAAN) announced today plans to deliver BaanERP for IBM’s S/390 flagship operating system, OS/390 running DB2, IBM’s high performance database. BaanERP on OS/390 consolidates both the enterprise resource planning (ERP) application server and the database server on a single, easily managed platform. Together, the solution will give customers great flexibility in adapting to changing business conditions by leveraging the functional scope of BaanERP, S/390’s strengths of availability, scalability, reliability, manageability and security, and DB2’s high levels of data integrity and performance.
In March of this year, the first versions of BaanERP on OS/390 were installed as part of the product’s beta test program. The Aerostructures Corporation of Nashville, Tenn., a leading manufacturer of complex aircraft components and assemblies, is a current test customer of BaanERP on OS/390.
“We were looking for an open, high performance solution for our business that would give us the scalability and system integrity necessary for our daily operations,” said Julia Peeler, corporate vice president of Manufacturing and Information Systems, The Aerostructures Corporation. “The Baan/IBM solution will provide us with the tools we need to thrive in a rapidly growing marketplace.”
The test program for BaanERP on OS/390 is planned to be expanded with additional customers in June, 1998. General availability of the product is planned for Q3 1998.
“When engaging in business, companies should not be bound by geography, time or technical constraints. Enterprise resource planning solutions, such as BaanERP, demonstrate that applications can be designed with client needs in mind,” said David R. Carlucci, general manager of IBM’s S/390 Division. “IBM’s customers can benefit from this global approach to the business of doing business.”
