Hertz Rides With IBM For Information Technology Services

SOMERS, New York (April 08, 1998) – The Hertz Corporation announced today that it hasrenewed its five-year, $100 million-plus contract with IBM for a variety of information technology services.
Under the terms of the alliance, IBM Global Services will be responsible for the operation of IBM mainframe computers at the Hertz Data Center in Oklahoma City, OKlahoma, and application development and maintenance support of selected systems. Hertz is signing this contract as the initial five-year agreement, signed in 1993, comes to the end of its term.
“IBM is providing outstanding support for us under the current contract,” said Paul J. Siracusa, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Hertz. “This new five-year contract recognizes the value and service that they have provided and builds on the foundation that has been established. “
“This was one of IBM’s first strategic outsourcing contracts in the travel and transportation industry,” said Robert Zapfel, an IBM Global Services executive. “Therefore, it is very gratifying that Hertz, an innovator and industry leader, chose to extend the relationship. We are committed to providing continued value to Hertz.”
Over the past 12 months, IBM has signed new contracts with multiple travel and transportation companies to assist them in improving customer service and shareholder value by providing services ranging from managed voice and data network capabilities to the outsourcing of company-wide information technology activities.
Hertz, the world’s largest car rental company, has more than 5,500 locations in approximately 140 countries with a worldwide fleet of 500,000 vehicles. Headquartered in Park Ridge, New Jersey, the company is celebrating its 80th anniversary.
