Chemdex, IBM Form Strategic Alliance to Deliver Internet-Based Supply Chain Solutions
Will Provide End-to-End E-Business Solutions for Pharmaceutical, Healthcare Customers and Suppliers
PALO ALTO, Calif. (November 11, 1999) – Chemdex (Nasdaq: CMDX), a leading provider of business-to-business e-commerce solutions for the life sciences industry, today announced a strategic alliance with IBM (NYSE: IBM) to provide end-to-end Internet-based supply chain solutions to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. The alliance is intended to accelerate the deployment of scalable e-business applications by combining Chemdex’s vertical marketplace expertise with IBM’s unmatched strengths in professional services, e-business implementation and technology.
IBM will provide the resources and systems integration tools of its IBM Global Services division to deliver Chemdex and Promedix vertical marketplace solutions to customers and suppliers in the pharmaceutical and healthcare provider markets, allowing seamless integration into existing ERP systems and third-party procurement applications. Chemdex recently announced that it had signed an agreement to acquire Promedix.com, a leading provider of e-commerce solutions to the healthcare industry. The alliance’s goal is to provide solutions that increase efficiency at multiple points along the supply chain benefiting both customers and suppliers.
