NEW YORK (June 16, 1998) – Just weeks after becoming generally available, IBM suites for Windows NT** are the cornerstone of applications and services announced today at PC Expo. Software Spectrum, Dickens Data Systems and ErgoTech are among leading business partners who are using the IBM suites to capture new markets and revenue opportunities. Highlights of their announcements include:
Software Spectrum, a worldwide supplier of personal computer software and technology services, broadened its portfolio to include services to help customers integrate IBM suites for Windows NT into their unique IT environments. Software Spectrum will also offer new Technical Integration workshops to train IBM business partners and technical support personnel on building solutions that integrate the IBM suites.
Dickens Data Systems, an IBM midrange value-added distributor, expanded its consulting practice to include new focus around IBM suites for Windows NT, Business Intelligence, e-commerce, Server Consolidation and ERP/ISV Solutions.
ErgoTech is a developer of applications that automate customers’ business processes using corporate intranets, extranets and the Internet. The company made available several applications based on components of the IBM suites for Windows NT.
“IBM has put together a powerful combination — suites of proven, reliable middleware for Windows NT that are priced to sell and easy to use,” said Bob Bailey, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Pioneer-Standard Electronics Inc./Dickens Data Systems. “With the IBM Suite for Windows NT, we can reach new customers and markets with more competitive e-business solutions.”
The IBM suites, which began shipping in May, make it easy for Windows NT users to build, deploy and manage business applications. The products integrate award-winning software from IBM, Lotus, and Intel, including IBM DB2 Universal Database*, Lotus Domino, and Intel*** LANDesk Management Suite***, to bring greater reliability, scaleability and security to the Windows NT platform.
The IBM Suite for Windows NT is designed to meet the fast-changing computing demands of branch offices, autonomous departments and medium-sized businesses. The IBM Enterprise Suite for Windows NT is for companies that want to integrate their Windows NT applications into core business systems and use this data in departmental Windows NT applications. IBM is also beta testing the IBM Small Business Suite for Windows NT, a comprehensive business solution for companies with fewer than 100 employees.
Solution developers, value-added distributors and resellers, system integrators and other business partners can use the IBM suites as a secure technology base for developing “e-business” solutions for customers in diverse industries and markets. A full complement of Web-ready capabilities are provided, including messaging, collaboration, networking, backup and recovery, and data and systems management.
“We created the suites hand-in-hand with our business partners,” said Ian Bonner, vice president, Lotus & IBM Worldwide Partner Marketing and Programs, IBM. “The speed in which new solutions are being developed and brought to market reflects how quick, easy and profitable it has become to work with IBM.”
“IBM’s integrated suites for Windows NT offer the robustness and reliability that our customers need to take advantage of e-business opportunities,” said Link Simpson, vice president, Software Spectrum. The IBM Suite for Windows NT is a key component of Software Spectrum’s strategy for meeting the business needs of medium-sized companies.”
“In the past we’ve created applications based on DB2 Universal Database and Lotus Domino,” said Sanford Cohen, president, ErgoTech. “So building applications based on IBM suites for Windows NT is a natural for us.”
