San Jose, CA (December 07, 1999) – IBM announced today that Aetna U.S. Healthcare® has selected IBM’s recently released Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) to store and manage claims and encounter information from the Prudential HealthCare (PHC) businesses — now owned and administered by Aetna U.S. Healthcare. The Enterprise Storage Server — code-named ‘Shark’ — is the most advanced disk storage system available and provides data-intensive companies like Aetna with unsurpassed performance and scalability.
Located at Aetna U.S. Healthcare’s Jacksonville, Florida data center, the ‘Sharks’ will provide a single, centrally managed site for PHC files, including information on policies, health insurance claims and prescriptions. By selecting ‘Shark,’ Aetna U.S. Healthcare is well-prepared to deal with future increases in its storage needs, due to the massive scalability of the IBM Enterprise Storage Server, which is powered by Seascape architecture.
