Borland Brings High-Productivity Java Development To The AS/400 With JBuilder/400 Client/Server Suite
Borland Announces Worldwide Marketing Relationship with IBM: Trial Version of JBuilder/400 to be Included with Each New Copy of OS/400
SAN FRANCISCO (February 17, 1998) – Borland International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BORL) and IBM today announced a joint worldwide marketing relationship around Borland’s new Java development tool for the AS/400 platform, JBuilder/400 Client/Server Suite. The announcement was made in conjunction with IBM’s release of the new version of the AS/400 operating system, OS/400 V4R2, and its Java virtual machine. As part of the agreement, a 90-day trial version of JBuilder/400 will be included with every new AS/400 and OS upgrade shipped by IBM. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
JBuilder/400 made its formal debut at this week’s IBM Business Partner Executive Conference (BPEC) being held at San Francisco’s Moscone convention center, booth #AS-25. Applications developed with JBuilder/400 can run on any client that supports a JDK 1.1-compliant virtual machine, on the AS/400 server (V4R2 or later), and can be partitioned between client and server, without compromising security or data integrity.

JBuilder and the IBM San Francisco Project
Borland and IBM have also been working together on a joint R&D effort to improve enterprise-wide Java development through the integration of JBuilder with IBM’s San Francisco project. As part of this combined effort, the companies have been building visual tools, Wizards and object-oriented components to optimize learning and productivity as it relates to San Francisco. To reach this goal, Borland and IBM plan to install JBuilder at IBM San Francisco education centers worldwide.
