IBM CommercePOINT Payments Broadened to Leading Platforms
Provide Flexible, Scalable, Secure e-business Solutions
N/A (March 09, 1998) – IBM today announced broadened availability of its CommercePOINT* payment family of products, helping customers conduct secure electronic commerce on multiple platforms. IBM CommercePOINT eTill, its online cash register, is now available on the IBM OS/390*, and on SunSolaris**. IBM also announced CommercePOINT Gateway for OS/390, offering an interface between merchant Web servers and existing credit card processing systems.
“IBM continues to deliver ground-breaking Internet payment solutions to the market,” said Mark Greene, vice president, electronic payments and certification, IBM. “The CommercePOINT payment family benefits from the IBM heritage of openness, scalability and flexibility. Now available on these new platforms, CommercePOINT eTill and CommercePOINT Gateway can be used to provide industrial-strength e-commerce solutions that scale for the global marketplace.”
In September 1997, IBM CommercePOINT payment family became the industry’s first suite of end-to-end solutions that enable security and quick, easy credit card commerce on the Internet. Today the IBM CommercePOINT payment family consists of the following components:
IBM CommercePOINT Wallet — Certificate and transaction management software that allows end-users to place, track and manage purchases and associated SET*** Secure Electronic Transaction protocol certificates;
IBM CommercePOINT eTill — A Java-based solution provides merchants with the ability to acquire and process encrypted and digitally signed transactions for SET from a SET wallet;
IBM CommercePOINT Gateway — A payment processing application based on the SET protocol that offers an interface between the Internet and existing non-Internet credit card processing systems;
IBM Registry* for SET — Enables the card-issuing companies to assign digital certificates to customers to help identify customers in online transactions.
Based on the SET protocol, the CommercePOINT payment suite offers advanced security and identification of transaction participants, making online purchasing secure for consumers and merchants. The CommercePOINT payment suite of products integrates SET into all phases of a commerce transaction encompassing the consumer, the merchant and the acquiring bank’s processor, resulting in a complete, security-rich solution for electronic commerce.
IBM CommercePOINT eTill is also currently available on IBM AIX*, MS IIS** and Windows NT **. IBM CommercePOINT Gateway* is also available on IBM AIX and IBM NetView*.
