IBM’s Middleware Products Win Network Computing’s Well-connected Awards

LAS VEGAS (May 06, 1998) – -IBM, the leading vendor in both total and distributed transaction software, again won multiple awards for its transaction systems software. IBM’s TXSeries won a Well-Connected Award in the ”Best DTP” category and IBM’s MQSeries won the Well-Connected Award in the ”Messaging Queuing Middleware” category. The Awards are bestowed by Network Computing Magazine and the award-winning products were announced last night at a gala event during the Networld+Interop ? show.
Last year, Encina received the Well-Connected Award and CICS Transaction Monitor received an honorable mention in the DTP category. Encina and the CICS Transaction Monitor are the predecessors to TXSeries. This is the third consecutive year for MQSeries to receive the Well-Connected Award in its category.
”The Well-Connected Awards have established a reputation for ‘putting products to the test’,” said Alfred Z. Spector, general manager, Transaction Systems, IBM. ”Network Computing chooses its winners by actually testing the nominated products. In selecting TXSeries and MQSeries as leading middleware products, Network Computing confirms what many IBM customers know — that IBM middleware offers the most innovative technology, on the most platforms, with the highest scalability and performance rates.”
According to Network Computing, products that receive Well-Connected Awards take networking to ”new, more polished levels.” Network Computing said of TXSeries 4.2, ”TXSeries continues to add value and innovate in a category that has few participants and is slow to change. Value comes in the form of a complete package that includes everything from Lotus Domino Go Webserver to MQSeries. Innovation comes in a full range of Internet, Java and enterprise clients, server-side Java support and enhanced e-commerce capability. With all these options, TXSeries is what a transaction server should be — an industrial-strength
application server platform.”
About MQSeries v.5, Network Computing said, ”New competitors have crept into the field, but none has managed to duplicate the combination of MQSeries’ highly reliable asynchronous communications layer, mixed network environment support, API tuned to application integration and wide cross-platform support. With this version, however, IBM ups the ante. The new Fast Messages enhancement lets MQSeries compete with other strictly message-passing alternatives on a message-per-second performance basis. MQSeries is even further integrated with IBM’s transaction server products, but new doors have been opened with Java clients and APIs.”
