IBM takes the prizes: FamilyPC and the National Parenting Center award IBM for stand-out consumer products
Somers, NY (June 02, 1998) – IBM today announced that FamilyPC and the National Parenting Center recently honored IBM for its consumer hardware and software products with a number of awards that showcase IBM’s ability to deliver quality products and solutions with enduring value for customers.
At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Atlanta last week, IBM’s Aptiva E26 home PC, Edmark’s Let’s Go Read: An Island Adventure and IBM’s World Book 1998 Multimedia Encyclopedia were among the select products distinguished with FamilyPC’s Top Rated award.
FamilyPC magazine held its 1998 Top Rated Awards for software, hardware and Web sites at a black-tie ceremony on May 27th, where it honored IBM for the outstanding ease-of-use, technology innovation and design of its consumer products. To determine the award recipients, the editors of FamilyPC looked at hundreds of stand-out products and picked the 50 absolute best hardware and software products and ranked them Top Rated. Based on this assessment:
IBM’s Aptiva E26 was named FamilyPC’s Best Budget PC.
IBM’s Edmark Let’s Go Read: An Island Adventure was awarded FamilyPC’s Best Software for Kids.
IBM’s World Book 1998 Multimedia Encyclopedia also took home a FamilyPC Best Software for Kids award.
“These awards demonstrate the strength and the quality of IBM’s entire consumer offerings,” said James Firestone, general manager, IBM Consumer Division. “IBM is in a unique position in the consumer marketplace we are breaking new ground by delivering technology innovation, quality and enduring value on both the consumer hardware and software fronts. We are pleased but not surprised that FamilyPC has placed our Aptiva, Edmark and World Book products among its 1998 winners.”
“There are a lot of terrific consumer technology products on the market today and we’ve looked at most of them,” said Robin Raskin, editor-in-chief, FamilyPC. “With our Top Rated awards we pick the best products of the year and IBM made a strong showing.”
In addition to the FamilyPC awards, IBM’s Crayola Magic Wardrobe was a finalist at E3 for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences high honor of Edutainment Title of Year. The Academy recognizes outstanding interactive content and individual technical and creative achievement in the personal computer, game console and online platforms. The Crayola title was also recently honored with the 1998 National Parenting Center Seal of Approval and the Newsweek Software Editor’s Choice Award.
