IBM and USTA to Continue Partnership into New Millennium

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y (September 10, 1998) – IBM and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) today announced that they have extended their year-round partnership through the year 2001. Since 1992, IBM has been the official information technology partner for the USTA, providing equipment and services for match results and statistics collection; supplying information and graphics to television broadcasters and other media, and distributing tournament data to on-site locations around the USTA National Tennis Center. IBM and the USTA have partnered to produce the official US Open Web site since 1995.
”Our partnership with the USTA is unique in that it is not just for the two weeks of the US Open, but it involves a year-round collaboration between our organizations to plan, develop, design and implement all of the technology to run the tournament,” said Eli Primrose-Smith, vice president, worldwide Olympic and sports sponsorships, IBM.
”We are delighted to extend our partnership with IBM,” said Pierce O’Neil, USTA director of marketing. ”IBM has been an essential communications enabler for the USTA and has been instrumental in increasing fans’ enjoyment of the US Open Tennis Championships worldwide.”
IBM provides information technology systems for the Australian Open, Wimbledon, French Open and the US Open and has designed and powered the official Web sites of all four Grand Slam tournaments.
