Yankee Gas Extends, Expands IBM Technology Outsourcing Agreement
Partnership Extends through 2008
Somers, New York (October 06, 1998) – IBM announced it has reached agreement on a contract extension with Yankee Gas Services Company of Meriden, Conn., to provide information technology support and services through the year 2008. Yankee Gas is the largest natural gas distribution company in Connecticut.
Under the terms of the agreement, IBM Global Services will continue to provide datacenter operations services, an on-site, jointly staffed help desk, network station management for over 600 client systems and 25 Intel/AIX based servers.
“This agreement is important because it increases our flexibility and enhances our ability to respond to our customers,” said Charles E. Gooley, president and CEO of Yankee Energy Systems, Inc., and president of Yankee Gas Services Company. “By contracting with IBM to provide these services, it reduces our need for major capital expenditures in information technology.”
“There are a lot of ways to measure customer satisfaction. The toughest measurement is whether customers vote to keep you integrated in their business,” said Tom Cotney, IBM Global Services Vice President for the Utility and Energy Services Industry. “The extension of the agreement is a testimony to our record in helping Yankee Gas achieve their aggressive business objectives,” added Cotney.
Yankee Gas Services Company, the largest natural gas distribution company in Connecticut serving approximately 183,000 customers in 68 cities and towns, is the regulated subsidiary of Yankee Energy System, Inc. Yankee Energy System, Inc., is also the parent of Yankee Energy Services Company (YESCo), which provides a full range of energy-related services for its customers including comprehensive building automation and HVAC equipment services; R.M. Services, providing residential collection services; and Yankee Financial, which provides a full range of equipment financing options. With this contract renewal, IBM Global Services has signed $20 billion in strategic outsourcing agreement in 1998 and resigned nearly 40 percent of its customers. Earlier this year, IBM Global Services signed two significant outsourcing contracts in Connecticut with GE Capital Services of Stamford and United Technologies Corporation of Hartford.
