Strategic Technology Partnership Valued at Over $110 Million

Somers, NY (November 03, 1998) – IBM announced that it has signed a five-year, $110 million plus strategic technology partnership with Consolidated Freightways (CF). The agreement calls for IBM Global Services to manage a majority of CF’s information technology infrastructure through the year 2003.
Under the terms of the agreement, IBM Global Services will manage CF’s information technology resources, providing data center management; network, voice, and data management; desktop management; help desk support services; and business recovery services.
“CF has a long tradition of leading the freight transportation industry in technological innovations,” said Matt Saikkonen, chief information officer, Consolidated Freightways. “New state of the art technologies, tools, processes and methodologies will enable CF’s information technology professionals to be even more responsive to rapidly changing business requirements and give us a competitive advantage in the marketplace.”
“Creating a technology partnership with IBM Global Services will allow CF to leverage the skills and capabilities of both organizations in applying technology to the requirements of the freight transportation industry.” added Saikkonen.
“We are excited about the newly expanded information technology partnership we have established with Consolidated Freightways,” said Robert Zapfel, IBM Global Services General Manager for Travel and Transportation, Utilities and Government Industries. “Consolidated Freightways is pursuing many exciting new technological and business growth opportunities and we look forward to assisting them in that pursuit with the technological expertise of IBM Global Services.”
