Somers, N. Y (November 16, 1998) – IBM today announced that its AS/400e series servers will be the first to run the world’s only Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) application written entirely in Java.
Intentia, one of the industry’s leading providers of enterprise resource planning solutions, unveiled its new Movex Version 11 software today. Movex 11 is the first ever totally Java-based ERP software package. The Swedish firm, an AS/400 business partner, announced that this revolutionary new software has been optimized first to run on AS/400.
“Our success in the market can be directly attributed to the depth and flexibility of Movex and the strong performance of IBM’s AS/400e series,” said Bjorn Algkvist, CEO and President, Intentia International. “We will continue to invest in development on the AS/400e platform because we are convinced this strategy will enable us to sustain our leadership in this market well into the next millennium.”
Java is one of the most talked about and fastest growing new programming environments. In just over 1,000 days, Java grew from zero-to-70 million Java-enabled seats, more than 2,000 Java applications and more than 700,000 serious Java developers — a number that doubled in just six months.
A study by International Data Corp. (IDC) showed the number of U.S. companies using Java grew by 11 percentage points — from 35 percent to 46 percent — in just three months. And IDC predicts that 60 percent of Internet applications will be created with Java by the end of 1998.
